Acrylonitrile Styrene Acrylate (ASA )
Is a thermoplastic developed as an alternative to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), but with improved weather resistance, and is widely used in the automotive industry.
Properties:
- ASA is significantly more resistant to environmental stress cracking than ABS, especially to alcohols and many cleaning agents
- ASA has high outdoor weatherability; it retains gloss, color, and mechanical properties in outdoor exposure.
- It has good chemical and heat resistance, high gloss, good antistatic properties, and is tough and rigid.
Application:
It is used in applications requiring weatherability, e.g. commercial siding, outside parts of vehicles, or outdoor furniture.
Styrene Acrylonitrile ( SAN )
PROPERTIES
Styrene acrylonitrile resin is a copolymer plastic consisting of styrene and acrylonitrile. It is also known as SAN. It is widely used in place of polystyrene owing to its greater thermal resistance.
Styrene Acrylonitrile ( SAN )
SAN is similar in use to polystyrene. Like polystyrene itself,
- It is optically transparent and brittle in mechanical behaviour.
- The copolymer has a glass transition temperature greater than 100 °C owing to the acrylonitrile units in the chain, thus making the material resistant to boiling water.
Application:
plastic optical cases and batteryUses include food containers, kitchenware, computer products, packaging material, fibers.
